GARMENT CARE

CASHMERE

WASHING CASHMERE
You can wash cashmere, but it requires gentle care to keep it in its best condition. As a high quality fabric, taking care of it properly will mean that you get the most wear out of your super soft cashmere clothing. It’s encouraged to only wash your cashmere no more than once a month or after about 10 wears due to its natural antibacterial properties.

How to Hand Wash Cashmere

Hand washing is the safest and most gentle way to clean your cashmere garments. Here’s how to do it:
  • Use cold water to prevent cashmere from shrinking.
  • A cashmere wash specifically aims to extend the life of your knitwear through cleaning. Alternatively, choose a gentle detergent suitable for wool or delicates. Avoid harsh chemicals and bleach.
  • Place your cashmere item in the soapy water and gently swirl and soak your garment for around 30 minutes. For any specific stains you may wish to remove, stain remover can be directly applied to the area and massaged gently using a soft sponge.
  • Drain the soapy water and refill the bowl with clean, cold water. Rinse the cashmere until the water runs clear.
  • Gently press the water out of the cashmere without twisting or wringing it.
  • Lay the cashmere to dry flay on a clean, dry towel – this helps to keep your cashmere clothing in shape. Reshape it to its original dimensions and leave it to air dry. Avoid direct sunlight and heat sources.

Dry Cleaning Your Cashmere

If your cashmere garment is stained or made from a woven or loose knit, dry cleaning is the best option. It is also the ideal way to clean cashmere before placing it into storage, as it helps to deter clothes moths.

STORING YOUR CASHMERE

Everyday Cashmere Storage

Between wears, fold your cashmere knitwear and store in a drawer or on a shelf away from heat sources and sunlight. If you'd prefer to use hangers, only use those that are specifically for knitwear to avoid misshaping your garment.

Long Term Cashmere Storage

To store your clean cashmere garments for a longer period, place them inside a breathable, zip-up plastic bag, and then a cool dark place such as a wardrobe. To avoid condensation build-up inside the bag, be sure to open it once every three months.

Preventing and Removing Pilling

Keep pilling at bay on your cashmere knitwear by laying the garment flat and gently combing the surface with a special cashmere comb. This will remove the loose fibres that lead to piling, or any pills that have already formed.

Removing Creases From Cashmere

Turn your garment inside-out and iron on a low setting, with a damp cloth between the fabric and the iron. Alternatively, use a hand-held steamer to remove creases.
